Racing is a huge passion of mine! It's impossible to describe the adrenaline rush of coming through the finish line of a triathlon or marathon. For me, racing started around age 14. I started with 5Ks, then moved to 10Ks and 15Ks. After several years of doing these, I decided to start getting more competitive. I decided to take on marathons.
My first was the Detroit Marathon. It was so cold that I couldn't feel my fingers until mile 13 and riding over the bridge from Michigan to Canada felt like running over a washboard at 30 miles per hour - just a little jarring. During the course of my first marathon, I helped three guys with flat tires, ran over some of the biggest potholes (bigger than NYC potholes if you can believe it!) and still took a first place finish!
This year I decided to take on Olympic distance triathlons. Triathlons are an entirely different beast. Instead of preparing for one event, you're preparing your body and equipment for three and that's definitely added stress. But, when you finish a triathlon, you feel like you really accomplished something huge!
