About April

April Coughlin is a triathlete, wheelchair racer, English teacher in a public high school in New York City , and public speaker. As a result of a car accident at age six, she sustained a spinal cord injury and became a paraplegic. April has never allowed her injury to slow her down, and after receiving her Masters degree in teaching, she went on to earn a Masters degree in Broadcast Journalism at Syracuse University.

April has been racing since high school, and at age 27, she has begun to take on triathlons, explaining:

I have always tried to challenge myself. Whether through higher education, competing in marathons, teaching in New York City, or training for and doing triathlons, I think it's important to push myself to the next level and always set the next goal.
